In 1998 the Joint Committee on Government Operations conducted a preliminary performance review of Public Defender Services (PDS) in accordance with the West Virginia Sunset Law, Chapter 4, Article 10 of the West Virginia Code, as amended. The Committee issued a Preliminary Performance Review in January, 1999. That Review, as well as the 2001 Update is available herein, along with the responses from PDS.

Performance Audit Update
Following the completion of the Performance Review referenced above, Public Defender Services commissioned a study by the Indigent Defense Task Force. The study was performed with the assistance of The Spangenberg Group, the foremost national authority on indigent defense and was issued January 14, 2000.
